Fall Hints
Ticks and fleas
love this time of year. Be
sure your pet continues on a tick
and flea prevention program
at least until there is a killing freeze.
Click here for information on ticks and Lyme disease.
Mosquitoes will be around for
a while, and they cause heartworm. Be sure to keep your pet
on heartworm prevention until at least December 1, or when
mosquitoes are no longer a problem.
Provide a dry shelter that’s
out of the wind for your dog.
If the nights get cold, or the weather is severe,
bring your dog inside.
Allergies aren’t just for
people! In the fall, ragweed, mold and other allergens are abundant.
Don’t walk your dog in unmowed areas; clean up
rotting leaves promptly; rain helps keep pollen from
spreading, so take advantage after rain showers for outdoor
fun with your pet; brush your pet after he’s been
outdoors.
Most dogs and cats shed their
summer coats this time of year.
Brush them daily—there will be less hair on the
furniture and your pet’s coat will glisten.
