Stephen R. Purdy, DVM

Dr. Steve Purdy is a graduate of Cornell Veterinary School, class of 1981 and has been engaged in farm animal and small animal clinical practice ever since. He is the President of Nuñoa Project, a non-profit organization committed to the improvement of the health and well-being of alpacas and llamas and people in the southern Peruvian Andes. He is also the Director of the North American Camelid and Donkey Studies Programs, located in Belchertown, with an affiliation through the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Dr. Purdy is involved in practical, humane research and educational projects which promote improvement of animal health and training of pre-veterinary and vet students and veterinarians. Dr. Purdy still enjoys the daily challenges of clinical practice after 40 years. He and his wife own 8 donkeys and 15 alpacas, 2 dogs, and 1 cat. In his down time, he enjoys cycling and exercising with his wife and friends, and spending as much time as possible with his children and grandchildren.
